The film the Rose is a very loosely based movie about Janis Joplin. You see the last few days of Rose's (Bette Midler) life, a female rock and roll star. Rose goes through her last days in a drug and alcohol haze leading up to her final concert in her hometown. She 'adopts' a cowboy lover on the way, Houston Dyer (Fredrick Forrest) in a last effort to find some kind of normalcy in her crazy, rock and roll world. Rose takes you on a journey through the loneliness and pain, dealing with an unscrupulous manager (Alan Bates) that won't let her rest, rejection from her idol, a country music star and coping with being a rock and roll 'diva'.
Electrifying musical numbers, including the hit song "The Rose" make the film a pop culture classic.
