"Chat gim" is a story set along the backdrop of the early 1600s. It is the beginning of the Ching Dynasty established by the Manchurian Empire. However with this new Dynasty come new reform and the banning of Martial Arts forbidding the practice in order to maintain control. Wind Fire (Sun Hong-Lei), a surrendered military official from the previous dynasty, sees this as an opportunity to make a fortune for himself by helping to execute the new law. Wind quickly becomes a fierce being in the region and his next goal is to attack the final frontier, Martial Village. Fu Qingzhu (Chia-Liang Liu), a retired executioner from the previous dynasty, feels the need to put a stop to this brutality and sets out to save Bowei Fortress. He brings Wu Yuanyin (Charlie Yeung) and Han Zhiban (Yi Lu) from the village with him to Mount Heaven to seek help from Master Shadow-Glow (Jingwu Ma), a hermit who is a master of swords and leads a group of disciples of great swordsmanship. Together with Chu Zhaonan (Donnie Yen), Yang Yunchong (Leon Lai), Mulong (Duncan Chow), and Xin Longzi (Liwu Dai), the Seven Swords is formed and their heroic journey begins.
