“Can’t Buy Me Love” is the story of how nerd Ronald Miller (Patrick Dempsey) hatches a plan to become one of the cool kids at his school. Ronald lives a life of mowing lawns, spending Friday nights playing poker with friends and enduring the taunts of younger brother Chuckie (Seth Green). That changes during a trip to the mall to buy a telescope. Popular cheerleader Cindy Mancini (Amanda Peterson) has ruined her mother’s expensive suede outfit and does not have the $1000 to replace it. Seeing Cindy’s distress he offers to buy the outfit if she will pose as his girlfriend for one month. He believes that Cindy’s popularity will rub off on him and that the other popular kids will blindly follow her acceptance of him. After a bumpy start Ronald is soon one of the most popular kids in school and he can do no wrong. As the month goes on Cindy starts to have feelings for Ronald but he is so caught up in his popularity that he does not see it nor does he see that he has alienated his old friends. Slowly Ronald begins to see the price of his fame.
