The village of St Mary Mead, home to Agatha Christie's sleuth Miss Jane Marple (Angela Lansbury) has been chosen as the location for a Hollywood film. The two stars of the movie are Marina Rudd (Elizabeth Taylor) and Lola Brewster (Kim Novak. Unfortunately, the two are sworn enemies and the unpleasantness starts as soon as Marina appears, accompanied by her partner Jason (Rock Hudson. He has come to England with her because she has been receiving death threats from an unknown source. A death occurs at a cocktail party; a local woman, who has been talking to Marina Rudd, drinks the star's cocktail and dies. The drink has been poisoned. Everyone assumes that the drink was intended for Marina but not Miss Marple nor her nephew who happens to be the Scotland Yard Detective assigned to the case. They delve into Marina's history to track down the murderer and the true reason behind the apparently mistaken poisoning.
