Robinson Crusoe (Pierce Brosnan) takes off on a ship from England after he murders a friend of his when they clash over a woman named Mary (Polly Walker), whom they both love. He is shipwrecked due to a storm and then marooned on his own on an island. He must manage for himself there. He ekes out a survival and then encounters Man Friday (William Takaku), whom he saves from human sacrifice. Crusoe is glad to have a companion. But then he has to protect himself from Friday’s tribe, which wants to sacrifice people for religious reasons. At first, Crusoe and Friday are like a master and a slave, but eventually, they become good friends even though they come from very different religious and cultural backgrounds.
