Betty Sizemore (Renee Zellweger) is a clueless housewife who loves her soap operas. When she accidentally witnesses the murder of her cad of a husband, Betty develops amnesia. Obsessed with the lead character in her favorite daily soap, she sets off to Hollywood in search of Dr. David Ravell (Greg Kinnear). Upon arriving in Hollywood, Betty seeks out Dr. David who thinks she is just an over-eccentric fan. Soon David's ego has him offering Betty a role in the show and spending more time with her, all without realizing that somethings not right. Soon, real complications arise when the two hit men (Morgan Freeman and Chris Rock) that killed her husband seek out Betty. They must eliminate the witness and recover the drugs in Betty's car.
