When Mexican revolutionary Luis Chama (John Saxon) raids a Texas town in response to land being stolen from his people, real estate mogul Frank Harlan (Robert Duvall) brings a team men to find the revolutionary before he can cause enough disruption to bring the authorities in to examine land matters more closely. In order to guide his group to Chama's camp, Harlan hires local rancher Joe Kidd (Clint Eastwood), whom he tells he is going to capture the revolutionary. But Lamarr Simms (Don Stroud), Olin Mingo (James Wainwright), and Roy Gannon (Paul Koslo) are actually hired killers, and Harlan wants no witnesses to what he really intends to do.
