The Great Raid was inspired a heroic rescue of American POWs from a Japanese POW camp in the Phillipines. Fearing that the Japanese were planning to execute the remaining POWs a rescue attempt was mounted by the 6th Ranger Battalion and Filipino guerrilas. The plan conceived by Captain Prince (James Franco) is approved and modified enroute by LTC Mucci (Benjamin Bratt) as they learn to trust the Filipinos more and more. The POWs are lead by Major Gibson (Joseph Fiennes) who tries to maintain order and hope, while the Filipino Underground tries to smuggle needed supplies to keep them alive. It's a race against time, the Japanese Secret Police closing in on the Underground, the Japanese plans to murder the POWs, and the Rangers to arrive in time for the rescue.
