Since several months in Paris, a gang of dangerous criminals are committing violent robberies with war weapons. The Police chief, Robert Mancini (André Dussolier), which departure is imminent, told to his two greatest lieutenants, Léo Vrinks (Daniel Auteuil) and Denis Klein (Gérard Depardieu), this simple thing: the first to succeed with the arrest of these robbers will be the new boss at the 36, quai des orfèvres. Once great friends, now apart by their methods, their lives, their teams and even by a wife, Camille Wrinks (Valéria Golino), the struggle between the two cops becomes more than a competition. The two rivals will act without any morality to achieve their goal.
