It’s dawn and as the fog drifts across a the lake near Ystad a flock of swans franticly take flight, to no avail, as fire consumes the lake and massacres the entire flock. Inspector Kurt Wallander (Krister Henriksson) is given the strange case, which at fist glance appears to be a simple unimaginable prank of animal cruelty, to investigate. Meanwhile, Kurt’s estranged daughter Linda (Johanna Sallstrom) who recently graduated the Police Academy is stationed in nearby Ulsan and is looking into the disappearance of her best friend. It soon becomes apparent that both investigations are connected forcing Kurt and Linda to work together with very chilling personality effects as Linda has issue with her father. After the missing women is found murdered, clues from an English Bible with Hebrew quotes suggests that a fanatically religious cult is responsible for the death of the swains, and the women as part of some sadistic ceremonies. The entire Ystad Police Force believes it’s the work of the religious sect, but, something has Kurt thinking otherwise
